There has been an upsurge in purchases of absolute return funds by investors, says the Financial Times. They were the best-selling category of funds in April with purchases of £529 million, which follows figures of £300 million for March and £201 million for February.

Absolute return funds spread capital across a wide variety of investments and use an array of sophisticated investment techniques to reduce the risk of loss. After strong returns from stock markets for the past two years, it seems that investors want to lower the level of risk in their portfolios.
