Barbs Walton wins Bronze in World Sprint Triathlon

November 28th, 2012

In October Barbs came third in the 60-64 age group of the World Sprint Triathlon Championships New Zealand 2012. The weather on the morning was much better than the torrential rain experienced the day before, water temperature was 14 degrees with an undercurrent. Out of 31 ladies, Barbs was second fastest out of  the swim and then onto a very long 500 metres run around the wharf, into transition avoiding the tram lines and the water from the previous day. The bike was a technical course including long steep hills and sharp corners and on the way back to transition she was against the wind.

The run was technical in that it was around the town and various wharfs so lots of corners and bends . Barbs was happy with her race, good swim, good bike and good run, bringing home a time of 1.32.09 and bronze medal , 044 seconds behind second!

So 2013 – because of her success, Barbs has qualified for the World Championships again next year to be held in London in September.  This will be on the same course as the Olympics in 2012, where she had the pleasure of being a Gamesmaker and being on the field of play for the triathlon as one of her events. Prior to this, in June, Barbs will be competing in Turkey at the European  Championships, defending her twice won title.

Congratulations from all at Radcliffe & Co and we wish Barbs every success going forward. Watch this space!
