  Introduction to Radcliffe & Co  
     
  Radcliffes is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year.

Formed in 1959 by Wyn Radcliffe, the Company has provided impartial advice to its clients during that period. The original Company consisted of Wyn and a secretary and he arranged cover for individuals and small businesses, both in respect of Life, Pensions and General Insurance. He was joined in the late 1970s by two General Insurance Brokers who specialised in Commercial Insurance to small/medium local companies.

In 1986 Ted Goodwin, the current MD of Radcliffes, joined and set up the Life and Pensions Company which is the heart of the business today. After a couple of years Ted was joined by Jack Thomas who remained Chairman of the Company until his untimely death in 2006. During their time together Ted and Jack laid the foundations for what many regard as the premier Independent Financial Adviser on the south coast.

The Company has continued to grow and attract quality advisers. For example, most of the staff from a smaller IFA in Bournemouth have recently joined Radcliffes and with their addition staff numbers have increased to just over 40, 20 of which are advisers.

Uniquely we have never lost a major client (other than one that was taken over by a large multi-national) and this is due mainly to the fact that all existing consultants have been with us for five years or more and staff retention is exceedingly high. Clients are treated as individuals and form strong relationships, not only with their consultant, but also with the management team and the administration staff.

Recently we have formed a Strategic Alliance with Brooks Macdonald, a national Discretionary Fund Manager with a local branch in Winchester. They provide Investment Services to many of our clients ensuring that money is actively managed and that returns match clients’ expectations. This arrangement forms the cornerstone of our advice process and has been hugely beneficial to our clients, particularly in the current market.

The Company and staff are very much part of the community and we have been able to provide sponsorship to a variety of local sporting clubs, including cricket, youth football, rugby and netball. Charity work is also an important part of our commitment and via our staff we have raised funds for local and national charities with additional contributions being made by the Company.

Shares in the Company are now owned by the Management team and consultants and all are committed to the concept of professional quality advice being provided by appropriately qualified consultants.

We will continue to grow, but more importantly it is our intention to remain fiercely independent and to continue to provide first class advice for all clients.

The knowledge, skill and experience of the company’s advisers is pivotal. All of them have been known personally to the directors for at least five years. And each one is dedicated to providing our clients with the best possible service. Consequently, client retention is exceptionally high for our industry and no major client has ever felt the need to move elsewhere. Staff retention levels are also exceptionally high with the average length of service being eight plus years and growing.   A commitment to excellence

All the company’s consultants have demonstrated their commitment to both the provision of the best possible service to our clients and the standards set by the financial services industry by taking and passing the Financial Planning Certificate. This is only awarded after an examination requiring an in-depth knowledge of life, pension and investment business. The industry Regulator requires registered Independent Financial Advisers to achieve this qualification.

In addition, the company encourages all its consultants to study for the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate to enhance the technical skills offered to clients.

Furthermore, many support staff have taken and obtained Parts 1 and 2 of the Financial Planning Certificate, demonstrating their own commitment to providing the best possible professional service.

 
     
  Peace of mind comes as standard

The company is regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and is also a member of two trade associations. These are The IFA Association and the National Association of Pensions Funds (NAPF). NAPF represents the opinion of the pension industry as a whole, from corporate clients to insurance companies, and its views are widely respected.

 
     
    Radcliffe is a member of the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF)   The NAPF provides professional commentary, interpretation and guidance to its own members and the Government on pension issues, as well as the more complex changes and legislation imposed or proposed by the Inland Revenue.  
     
     
 
The company also plays a leading role in local business. As Gold Patrons of the Southampton & Fareham Chamber of Commerce, Marc Cumberlege and Colin Perryman sit on the Tax, Legal & Finance Committee with specific responsibility for providing updates on any pension issues and proposed legislation changes that may have an impact for members.
